Biography

Ron was born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from high school at 15 years old and moved to Colorado in 1996. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado in Boulder and a Master’s degree in Organizational & Professional Communications from the University of Denver.

From 2001 to 2008, Ron served as a teacher and administrator at Boulder Preparatory High School, a small charter school for underrepresented and disenfranchised youth in crisis. During his time at the school, he taught a wide variety of subjects and performed in administrative roles such as Office Manager, Registrar, and Director of Studies. During his time as Director of Studies, he helped Boulder Prep become the first school in North America to implement the Education for Peace curriculum, a unity-based academic model that was originally designed for students in post-genocidal Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ron met his wife Lisa on a volunteer trail-building project in 2004. He fell irreparably in love and the two were married in 2006. They currently live in Denver with their two children, Maddie and Lila.

In 2008, Ron and Lisa learned that their oldest child Maddie was deaf. Ron left his beloved teaching job to become a stay-at-home parent to Maddie and their newborn sibling Lila. He began freelancing that same year, initially writing for magazines and other small publications. His business, Waterday Media, soon expanded to include web development and other design work. Lisa joined Ron’s business in 2010, using her project management and business analysis expertise to transform Ron’s freelance work into a successful and sustainable family business.

In 2010, Ron also became a co-host and producer of Denver Diatribe, a local news and culture podcast that was voted Denver’s best podcast in 2011. That experience thrust him into the worlds of podcasting and Denver’s creative community, where he has happily remained ever since. He is now a producer of The Narrators live show and podcast, High Plains Comedy Festival, the Denver Independent Comic & Arts Expo, the Grawlix Saves The World podcast, Fiber Nation podcast, and more.
